The scope of Connects is, to facilitate technology transfer amongst Commonwealth States. The programme will be launched amongst the Commonwealth States of Asia, Africa, Europe, the Caribbean and Canada at two separate Regional Meetings: in South Africa on the 27th – 28th September and in Trinidad on the 30th September – 1st October 2010.

Whilst there are myriad ICT4D programmes on offer, Commonwealth Connects is the Commonwealth’s contribution to address the widening digital gap. Its uniqueness is premised on the opportunities for technology transfer afforded through the common history, language and most particularly institutional set up that we share as member states. The scope for sharing, is immense ranging from national ICT strategies at one end of the spectrum to the implementation of integrated e-Government or regulatory frameworks at the other.

These Connects regional meetings will be to introduce nominees from Asia and Africa to the Programme and its objectives. A number of the points of contacts from Asia, Africa and the Caribbean will be meeting to gain a better understanding of the programme objectives and how it will work and how it can exploit the full potential for technology transfer within the Commonwealth and to identify prospective candidate projects.
